UNITED KINGDOM - Tattoos with a religious theme, inspired by the body artwork sported by David Beckham, are in huge demand with the non-religious in Dorking. Robb Priest, 28, from Beare Green, runs Eternal Tattoos with wife Ruth and says religious tattoos have become the latest fashion trend. Mr Priest said: "Nearly all of it is Christian iconography. Images of Jesus and Mary, crosses, praying hands, bible verses and angels are very popular." He believes the tattoos are purely a fashion statement and doubts that having faith is the motivation for most people who undergo the painful procedure. Gerald Coates, pastor of the Pioneer Engage church, believes the trend for religious tattoos may represent a desire for spirituality in a modern consumer society. He said: "These designs may be attempts to touch the Christian faith in an increasingly secular society. [link]
