RELIGIOUS ART | NEWS OF WEEK

ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
By Disney-Britton
"Sticks & Stones" (above) by Binuri Lasanya Hapuarachchy, grade 9 of Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School in Indianapolis is the 2014 winner of Alpha Omega Prize for Student Art. Using a mirror surrounded by found objects---some from nature including sticks and stones and others found at home symbolizing childhood, the work reflects the shattered innocence in the viewer. The award was presented yesterday before a packed audience in Indianapolis. Twenty-five student artists explored the theme "Journey to Freedom" as part of the 2014 Spirit & Place Festival and that makes "Sticks & Stones" my NEWS OF WEEK.

Join us each November for our annual celebration of the religious imagination. Our goal is to promote creating, discussing and collecting religious art. When you follow religious artists, you look for others who do the same. Some of us join as "Creators" who exhibit at those celebrations; others as "Collectors" who provide artist support for the celebrations; and others join as "Friends" that subscribe to this weekly e-newsletter; (or follow on: Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, or Soundcloud).
