NEW YORK---The structural details of the $177 million restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral number in the tens of thousands. But the impetus for finishing the job ahead of the December deadline can be summarized in two words: The pope. The overall project received $37 million in financing from the trustees of St. Patrick’s and $100 million from private benefactors. Efforts to raise the rest of the money continue, Ms. Monaghan said. The pope is scheduled to attend vespers next Thursday at St. Patrick's, not long after arriving at Kennedy Airport. [link]
