“Enter the Eruv” by Ruth Schreiber
ISRAEL---The Jerusalem Biennale is dedicated to exploring the places in which Contemporary Art and the Jewish World of Content meet. This year, Ruth Schreiber's "Enter the Eruv" is one of the installation pieces included in the exhibition. "An Eruv is a symbolic boundary in Jewish Law," writes Ruth Schreiber, "defining the area within which there is no prohibition against carrying on the Jewish Sabbath." The concept of the "Eruv" dates back to the days of King Solomon, but this work deals specifically with the first Eruv in Great Britain in 2003.
