PBS News Anchor Gwen Ifill dies at 61
When we met Gwen Ifill in 2007, I was surprised how short she was (5'5"). Greg and I were assigned to be her escorts for the International Freedom Conductor Award gala in Cincinnati where she would serve as the mistress of ceremony. She was funny and beautiful, and I forgot about how short she was. We chatted about race, religion, and of course the Underground Railroad (she was a PK: "Preacher's Kid" in the African Methodist Episcopal Church; Greg a Methodist; and me a Roman Catholic). Greg didn't know her before that night, but she won two fans for life that evening. Ever since, we've joined her each week to watch her show, Washington Week, and most nights the NEWS HOUR. Gwen Ifill, died today of Cancer. She wasn't too short, but at 61-years, she was here for too short a time.
