Altar gets "afterlife" across the river

ILLINOIS -- The ornate main altar of a historic Dubuque church now graces the sanctuary of an even older Catholic church across the Mississippi River. Dubuque, Iowa's St. Mary Catholic Church (b.1867) was closed last year. Later, the interior furnishings and art pieces were sold and auctioned to religious and private parties. Now the faithful of an Illinois parish, St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Freeport, IL has moved the altar to its 150 year old church. Original statues and other liturgical art removed long ago from St. Joseph's are being returned, refurbished and replaced in the sanctuary. [link]
