The Angels Tells the Women, Christ Has Risen
CANADA - A symbol of promise and new beginnings, the rainbow became a sign of hope to the congregation at Sturgeon Creek United Church throughout the difficult years of rebuilding. It also became the starting point of the church's unique interior decoration project, put together by Manitoba's leading fabric artist, Judy Morningstar. Gorgeous art quilts now line the walls of the narthex, (entrance to the nave) and like the rainbow itself, the brightly coloured murals represent the brilliant aftermath of what was initially a hugely devastating inferno. Following the 1992 fire, a new church was rebuilt in 1994. This much-improved structure included something new, a huge light-filled narthex which was originally intended to have walls of Manitoba Tyndall stone. Inspired by other murals, Rev. Allan Saunders, the minister at that time, suggested a series of fabric art murals which would depict the Biblical story. There are eight murals in all. [link]
