INDIANAPOLIS - The second day of the Spirit & Place Festival, features Tattoo Legend Lyle Tuttle at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. For tattoo artist and historian Lyle Tuttle, tattoos are as much about spirituality as they are about physical decoration. In an unscripted interview with local tattoo artist Dave Sloan, Tuttle will discuss his tattoos -- collected on six continents -- and share the cultural traditions behind those images. "Tattoos are like stickers on my luggage," Tuttle said. "They are the most personal and selfish gift that you can buy yourself." Tuttle got his first tattoo illegally at age 14 and started tattooing professionally in 1949. Since then, he has been tattooed by Samoan chiefs and Thai Buddhist priests, and he has created tattoos for celebrities including Peter Fonda, Janis Joplin and Cher. Indianapolis Museum of Art, 4000 Michigan Road at 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets $8; $5 for IMA and Eiteljorg members and students.
