Closing Doors: Arts Center Based in Indianapolis Methodist Church

I didn't want to believe the rumors. How could I? Why would I believe that another religious arts-based organization was having a financial crisis? However, on August 31, 2012 the arts collective Earth House, based at Lockerbie Central United Methodist Church in downtown Indianapolis closed its doors. Yes, in their press release they wrote that they were "suspending its operations while the mission of the organization and programs are reevaluated," but that's simply nonprofit code for "going out of business". It's time to mourn another nonprofit casualty of the Bush Recession, but we pray this too will pass.

It was a maximalist experience for two minimalists who love to collect. We sold off multiple collections, including snow globes, Mary sculptures, paperweights, Disney plates, nutcrackers, 21c penguins, walking canes, and 100 prints and paintings! Most of it was in storage, but plenty was on display. We did it by inviting our community of artists and collectors to an estate sale before opening it to the public. Museum Calls Off Kehinde Wiley Show, Citing Assault Allegations

Bates for The New York Times The Minneapolis Institute of Art announced Thursday that it had decided not to move forward with a planned Kehinde Wiley exhibition, citing recent allegations of sexual misconduct against the artist, which he has denied.
