MASSACHUSETTS---Though Palestinians still don’t have their homeland, one family comes alive in all its complex humanity in a powerful exhibit at Brandeis University in Waltham. In "100 Steps to the Mediterranean,’’ artist Dor Guez transports visitors at the Rose Art Museum into the living room of his extended family through videos that give a voice to the Christian Arab minority of a Jewish nation. Combining four videos, archival photographs and striking lightbox images, Guez constructs a multilayered installation that provides a living context – historical, social and cultural – for the Monayer family that demands empathy and redress for their marginalization. If they feel uncomfortable, Guez has achieved his goal. [link]
