Alpha & Omega Project for Contemporary Religious Arts Names Artist of Year for 2010:Thomas Blackshear

NEW YORK - Alpha Omega Arts members have voted to make the US postage stamp portrait honoring Mother Teresa their 2010 choice for the A&O Prize for Contemporary Religious Art of the year. The commission was created by illustrator and sculptor, Thomas Blackshear II. The A&OPrize (no trophy or cash prize) is an annual contemporary religious art recognition for a single artwork by an American artist which has promoted a major dialogue about religion in America through during the past 12-18 months.

It was a maximalist experience for two minimalists who love to collect. We sold off multiple collections, including snow globes, Mary sculptures, paperweights, Disney plates, nutcrackers, 21c penguins, walking canes, and 100 prints and paintings! Most of it was in storage, but plenty was on display. We did it by inviting our community of artists and collectors to an estate sale before opening it to the public. Museum Calls Off Kehinde Wiley Show, Citing Assault Allegations

Bates for The New York Times The Minneapolis Institute of Art announced Thursday that it had decided not to move forward with a planned Kehinde Wiley exhibition, citing recent allegations of sexual misconduct against the artist, which he has denied.
