MELBOURNE---The show 'Buddha's Smile' is on view at the NGV, Melbourne from June 2 through October 17, 2017. The exhibition gives us a glimpse into the unique styles and mediums used to create Buddhist art throughout Asia. This is done by focusing on the tranquillity and peaceful transmission of Buddhist philosophy through the simple gesture of a smile. A series of stunning sculpture, textiles, paintings, scripts, prints and devotional objects are displayed in thematic sections. They carefully explore Buddha’s many incarnations, Zen philosophy, Buddhist costume, religious symbolism, painting conventions, and historical narratives. [More]
