NEW YORK---The juried exhibition “Dimensions of Spirituality – Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot” is drawn from the artists’ membership of the Jewish Artists Initiative (JAI) of Southern California, as part of an exchange with the Jewish Art Salon (JAS). The theme was chosen by JAI and JAS because of the simultaneous timing of the High Holidays with the exchange exhibitions in the fall of 2016 and 2017 and, more importantly, because of the resonance with the artists’ focus on Jewish history, spirituality, and their interest in promoting dialogue about Jewish identity and related issues among members of the art community. It was a maximalist experience for two minimalists who love to collect. We sold off multiple collections, including snow globes, Mary sculptures, paperweights, Disney plates, nutcrackers, 21c penguins, walking canes, and 100 prints and paintings! Most of it was in storage, but plenty was on display. We did it by inviting our community of artists and collectors to an estate sale before opening it to the public. Bates for The New York Times The Minneapolis Institute of Art announced Thursday that it had decided not to move forward with a planned Kehinde Wiley exhibition, citing recent allegations of sexual misconduct against the artist, which he has denied.
