INDIANA---In 2009, Tony Melendez created 16 separate hangings for each of the holydays of his church, Jesus Metropolitan Community Church in Indianapolis. No individual titles, just one work for each holiday. All 16 banners are between 5 and 6 ft. long and maybe 2 and one 1/2 feet wide. Melendez was born December 27, 1938 at Beth David Hospital, E. 90th Street, Manhattan, New York. The Dove on fire engine red banner was created for Pentecost Sunday. He says his style is influenced by the dreamscape images of the French impressionist Henri Rousseau.

It was a maximalist experience for two minimalists who love to collect. We sold off multiple collections, including snow globes, Mary sculptures, paperweights, Disney plates, nutcrackers, 21c penguins, walking canes, and 100 prints and paintings! Most of it was in storage, but plenty was on display. We did it by inviting our community of artists and collectors to an estate sale before opening it to the public. Museum Calls Off Kehinde Wiley Show, Citing Assault Allegations

Bates for The New York Times The Minneapolis Institute of Art announced Thursday that it had decided not to move forward with a planned Kehinde Wiley exhibition, citing recent allegations of sexual misconduct against the artist, which he has denied.
