Book Review: "Jerusalem: The Biography"

ISREAL - The city of Jerusalem is "Exhibit A" in the case against religion. The city is a collection of shrines worshipped equally by Jews, Muslims and Christians. Fanatics from each faith have always been keen to murder their religious rivals. They have regularly turned the place into a charnel house. The history of Jerusalem is a chronicle of massacres, and massacres dominate Simon Sebag Montefiore's book almost to the point of tedium. "Jerusalem: The Book" is a long book and yet it skitters over much of the story. It picks up each tyrant and puts him down a few pages later, leaving the reader titillated and confused. [Source: Sunday Star]
