UNITED KINDGOM - Ahead of BBC Two's documentary, The Life of Muhammad, Christopher Howse explains why the programme took care not to show images of Islam's prophet. Islam’s prohibition of pictures of Mohammed stems from its opposition to idolatrous images. This extends to all figurative art. In the Koran, Abraham (as a forerunner of Islam) is praised for asking his people: “What are these images to which you cleave?” (Sura 21: 52).  [link]
