A&O Art Opening During 2011 Spirit & Place Festival

INDIANA - The third day of the Spirit & Place Festival, features the opening exhibition of Beyond Dead: A Youth Response a fine arts competition featuring works by central Indiana high school students at the Indiana Interchurch Center Gallery. The show, exploring issues of the body after death includes diverse media including video, installations, paintings, drawings and more. The students are competing for over $750 in scholarships from the A&O Prize for Contemporary Religious Art, and gallery visitors will vote this week to decide the winners.

"Creating is one of the most powerful ways to deal with the effects of death," A&O Director, Ernest Britton said. "These student-artists are sharing their Creator Spirit by participating in this exhibition, and Alpha & Omega Prize for Contemporary Religious Art is proud to be able to provide scholarships for the winning students." Over a dozen area student-artists were selected to participate in this first annual show representing public, private and religious high schools in central Indiana. The show opens today at 5 p.m., and will run through December 31. The Indianapolis Interchurch Center Gallery is located at 1100 West 42nd Street between the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Christian Theological Seminary.
