2011 Spirit & Place Festival Ends with 3 A&O Student Artist Awards

1st Prize: "Freedom" by Rachael Walker
INDIANA -- Helping to close out the 16th annual Spirit & Place Festival in Indianapolis, the Alpha & Omega Project for Contemporary Religious Arts announced yesterday that Freedom by Rachel Walker, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School; After…Life by Ejaaz Collins, Broad Ripple Magnet High School; and Obituary by De’Sean Isom, Broad Ripple Magnet High School are the winners of the first annual A&Omega Prize for Young Artists in central Indiana, first, second and third prizes respectively. Winners to receive $750 Scholarship Prize to attend any accredited Indiana University; Park Tudor School, Gleaners and the Latino/a Collective of Indiana were also recognized for their group installations. It was a maximalist experience for two minimalists who love to collect. We sold off multiple collections, including snow globes, Mary sculptures, paperweights, Disney plates, nutcrackers, 21c penguins, walking canes, and 100 prints and paintings! Most of it was in storage, but plenty was on display. We did it by inviting our community of artists and collectors to an estate sale before opening it to the public. Museum Calls Off Kehinde Wiley Show, Citing Assault Allegations

Bates for The New York Times The Minneapolis Institute of Art announced Thursday that it had decided not to move forward with a planned Kehinde Wiley exhibition, citing recent allegations of sexual misconduct against the artist, which he has denied.
