PENNSYLVANIA - The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto is featuring select art that dates back 1,000 years with its opening of “Tibetan Treasures: The Rezk Collection of Tibetan and Nepalese Art.” The exhibition, from the museum’s permanent collection, includes approximately 90 objects of Tibetan and Nepalese art, which is on view through Jan. 28. The Rezk offering is one of the major collections of Tibetan and Nepalese art in the United States. ”It stands as one of the most valuable compilations of our collection and hasn’t been on exhibition for more than a decade,” said G. Gary Moyer, SAMA executive director. The artwork has been created within the context of Tibetan Buddhism. “One does not need to be an expert on Tibetan Buddhism to appreciate this material,” said Scott Dimond, museum curator for visual arts.
