OHIO - An exhibition on the illuminated bible art project, "The Saint John's Bible" opens at Cincinnati's College of Mount Saint Joseph's Studio San Giuseppe Art Gallery on January 17 and runs through February 22. The traveling exhibit features select pages from the monumental work which in its entirety contains more than 1,100 pages with nearly 200 illuminations in seven volumes, each measuring two feet by three feet. For more than a millennium, Bibles were not only the word of God but works of art, thanks to the tradition of illuminated manuscripts. Completed in 2011 after a 15-year process, it was commissioned by Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., reviving an educational, artistic and spiritual tradition with this ambitious and celebrated project.
