Court Bans Artwork of Mickey as Jesus Christ for 2nd Time

RUSSIA - Alexandr Savko's artwork 'Sermon of the Mount', depicting Mickey Mouse as Jesus Christ was declared extremist in court for the second time. Zhukovsky district court in Kaluga oblast retried the painting and confirmed its own earlier decision. On August 18, the court already called the painting extremist. The judge then said that the painting was "extremely cynical, offensive, and a dysphoric derision of the religious feelings of orthodox believers, harming their human dignity". The Oblast court sent the case back to be retried for procedural reasons and now the verdict was confirmed. Alexandr Savko is going to appeal again. This artwork is a reworked engraving by 19th century artist Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld. It was colored by Savko and the Saviour was replaced by Disney's Mickey Mouse. [link]
