ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
"Devi (The Great Goddess)"  By Ai Weiwei
WASHINGTON, DC - The Smithsonian's Freer Gallery of Art and Arhur M. Sackler Gallery presents "Perspectives: Ai Weiwei" for one year, from April 28, 2012 through April 7, 2013. This contemporary art installment features work by the prolific and provocative artist Ai Weiwei (b. 1957, China) including "Devi" (above) a Hindu Goddess. From large-scale installations, performances and architectural design to photography and video, his artistic practice deftly melds traditional materials and craftsmanship, local histories, and current events to create incisive commentaries on the individual in today's society. The exhibition is presented in conjunction with the exhibition "Ai Weiwei: According to What?" at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden from June 21 to September 9, 2012.
