FLASH ARTONLINE
QATAR - For the first time ever, Takashi Murakami will stage a solo exhibition in the Middle East. “Murakami – Ego”, hosted by QMA – Qatar Museum Authority, a governmental organization whose goal is to develop museums and cultural institutions in Qatar - will be on view from February 9 to June 24, 2012 at the Al-Riwaq hall of the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha. The exhibition will also feature some of the artist’s most well-known works: Kaikai Kiki Lots of Faces and Pom and Me. The artist has conceived the staging of “Murakami – Ego” as a work of art itself, installing LED pedestals with digital animation, a circus tent that doubles as a cinema, and a new 100-meter long painting that wraps around the entire space exhibition. To greet visitors at the entrance, Murakami will depict himself as a larger than life inflatable creature, like a character belonging to his own fabulous and crazy universe. [link]
