According to the Bible, Hezekiah is one of the three great Kings of Israel (around 700 BC) but he also sufferred one of the greatest invasions because he resisted God's plan. One of the main lessons of King Hezekiah's reign is that "No matter how powerful I may feel, I am not in control" (2 Kings 20). According to the Gospel of Matthew, Hezekiah is also one of Christ's ancestors, and as such is depicted as a baby by Michelangelo in spandrel above this Sistine Chapel Lunette. I'm looking for a better image of the spandrel, but this is as close as I've gotten following yesterdays sermon on King Hezekiah.
