"Christ of Thorns" artwork inspires contemporary Jazz composition

INDIANA - Tim Horner's associations throughout the jazz world stretch back over 30 years and could well have produced a musician so adaptable that his playing would reveal little personality. Horner's inspiration from visual art -- from a 13th-century religious work to Picasso's "Le Repas Frugal" -- and his musical curiosity were well-represented in his compositions, which reflect his formative training at Boston's Berklee College of Music. It's pretty unusual for a jazz piece to be triggered by a medieval painting titled "Christ of Thorns," but Horner's "Museum Piece," a trio number, lived up to that sobering inspiration. [link]
