OHIO - Robert Flischel couldn’t predict the breadth of priceless art and religious icons that he would discover when he set out 20 years ago to photograph this region’s places of worship. “I thought, OK, here I am going to paint a big picture, and it will be too much to absorb,” he said.  The result is a rare and fascinating document of the magnificent collections of artworks that exist locally in Catholic churches, from big cathedrals to tiny chapels. “Messages of Glory: The Narrative Art of Roman Catholicism,” a newly released coffee-table book, is illustrated with stunning images in brilliant colors.
