HAWAII - After a 10-year hiatus, when she established and developed her permaculture Ginger Hill Farm and Retreat Center in Kealakekua on Hawai‘i Island, artist Mayumi Oda returns with a powerful new series of paintings inspired by the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Painting Buddhist subjects using the ancient Japanese style known as Yamato-e, which translates to “Japanese painting,” Oda rediscovered traditional paper, inks and brushes and the beauty of classical mounting techniques. The paintings go on view May 24 in "Mayumi Oda: A Prayer for the New Birth of Japan." [link]
