Ascension Day is a Christian holy day commemorating the transition of the resurrected Jesus Christ from an earthly existence to a return to an eternal heavenly existence.
- Official name: "Feast Day of the Ascension" but also called "Holy Thursday" or "Ascension Thursday"
- Significance: Commemorates the asscension of Christ back to Heaven
- Observances: Church worship service/ Mass
- Length: One day
- Date: The Ascension occurs 40 days after Easter Sunday, so it falls on a Thursday, but in most congregations in the United States, the celebration of the Ascension has been transferred (unofficially) to the following Sunday. For 2012? Thursday, May 17 or Sunday, May 20
