An imam is not supposed to create controversy or damage people’s reputations,” said Ali Lafi, political and media adviser at the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Following the controversy accompanying the Printemps des Arts exhibition in the Palais Abdellia (located in Tunisia’s suburb of La Marsa), as well as the subsequent response from several Tunisian imams, the government has taken a stronger role in monitoring mosque activity to prevent further controversy. [link]
