INDIANA - The Indianapolis Museum of Art presents, "Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges with the Arts of Islamic Culture" from November 2, 2012 through January 13, 2013. The exhibition will be organized in four sections: geographical background to artistic production; the art of calligraphy; figurative imagery; and arabesque and geometry. Objects will be displayed thematically, accentuated to forge the visual character of the show, rather than chronologically or by place of origin, while also providing the necessary geographical and historical background for contextualization. Sociological, mythical, and philosophical themes across Islamic culture will be explored with the aspiration to bring about an understanding of its people. The 250+ object exhibition will explore an Islamic way of thinking, a way of seeing the world, and a way of being—as synthesized in visual expression. [link]
