With yesterday's news of a new Pope, and specifically the election of one from South America who choose to be named "Saint Francis" came also a renewal of hope for change around the world. Filipino artist Nicollo Cosme is one of those agents of change who yesterday tweeted in celebration of the selection of the new pope with: "Habemus Papam!!!!!" and retweeted the first message from the new pope @Pontifex. It also  significant because it all happened on the same day that Cosme shared and began seeking feedback to a new series of works rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition:
This is one of the 7 pieces I am working on for my Mater Dolorosa 2013 series.  This new series has a different approach, it’s minimalist, no embellishments, and I think it looks more pop-art compared to my usual approach. This particular image is accompanied by 7 silhouettes of Armalites (guns) to emphasize the sorrow caused by violence and aggression. I always believe that there is hope, but we need to do something about it. This is also for our brothers and sisters caught in the middle of aggression in Sabah.
Agents of change for peace, equality and an end to poverty come in many shapes. Clergy are certainly one set of change agents but to a large degree, especially during this era in the Western society where fewer and fewer identify with religious instutions, it is to the Artists we will look to for leadership. Nicollo Cosme, an INSPIRE ME! Artist is certainly one of those change agents. We look forward to seeing more of this series and sharing it with the A&O family.
