Since at least 2011, The Chronicle of Philanthropy' has been tracking how groups raise funds online, and thn publishing the findings in their annual survey. We noted the days and times when giving was the highest and lowest overall:
  • Highest Giving: November and May | Monday-Friday, with slight tip to Thursday | 9am to 2pm
  • Lowest Giving: August and February | Weekends drop more than 50% | 6pm to 6am
We also compared the giving in three key states: California, New York, and Indiana, and the results were surprising: NY's $3.33 giving per capita is nearly three times that of Indiana; but Indiana's increase in online giving at 14.6% is double that of California. All average gifts however are fairly even, ranging from $118 in NY to $132 for California, with Indiana in the middle at $121. For arts managers who incresingly count on online donations, the analysis about charitable giving by time, day and by location can be a strategic tool in bolstering your efforts.
