MacArthur Foundation Increases 'Genius Grants' Stipend

PHILANTHROPY---The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is increasing from $500,000 to $625,000 the stipend it awards to individuals through its ­MacArthur Fellows Program, popularly known as the “genius grants,” the grant maker announced today. The increase will apply to these year's fellows, who will be announced on September 25. The foundation will continue to award the stipends, given to creative individuals from a variety of fields, with no strings attached; recipients will still receive the money over a five-year period. It was a maximalist experience for two minimalists who love to collect. We sold off multiple collections, including snow globes, Mary sculptures, paperweights, Disney plates, nutcrackers, 21c penguins, walking canes, and 100 prints and paintings! Most of it was in storage, but plenty was on display. We did it by inviting our community of artists and collectors to an estate sale before opening it to the public. Museum Calls Off Kehinde Wiley Show, Citing Assault Allegations

Bates for The New York Times The Minneapolis Institute of Art announced Thursday that it had decided not to move forward with a planned Kehinde Wiley exhibition, citing recent allegations of sexual misconduct against the artist, which he has denied.
