UNITED KINGDOM---Christmas is a Christian festival, but a lot of its traditions originate from the older pagan festival of Yule. Yule of the Winter Solstice is on 21st December; it is the shortest day and longest night in year. From this point on days will begin to get longer. Pagans come together to celebrate the return of the sun or re-birth of the sun God. [link]

5 Christmas traditions with pagan origins:

  1. The Christmas tree of evergreen is symbolic of the eternal cycles of nature: birth, life, death, and re-birth;
  2. The Presents, is a pagan tradition linked to New Year's Day blessings;
  3. Father Christmas dressed in the Sun God colors of red, white, and gold;
  4. Kissing Under The Mistletoe, linked to Mistletoe as a pagan symbol of fertility;
  5. The Humble Robin (above), with his reddy orange chest represents the Sun God.
