RELIGIOUS ART | NEWS OF WEEK

ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
By TAHLIB
I spent Christmas with my five nieces who are all mothers, and it reminded me that mothers are the storytellers of our lives. On this 5th day of Christmas, many Christians reflect on the first Five Books of the Old Testament, the "Pentateuch", which tell the story of man's creation, fall, and God's promise; a promise that came true in the New Testament via a Middle Eastern mother: "Mary" the mother of Jesus Christ. However, the mother's story grows less visible with all the baby boy celebrations of this month. That is why Boushra Almutawakel's "Mother-daughter-doll" series (above) in “She Who Tells a Story: Women Photographers From Iran and the Arab World,” is my NEWS OF WEEK.

In other religious art news from across the USA, and around the world:
We are all members, united in the search for human meaning through art from the religious imagination. For us, it's more than Art. It's Religion. We follow artists who dare to explore religious ideas with their creative vision. When you follow religious artists, you join others who do the same. Some of us join as one of the "Collectors" of the A&O Project who make the final decisions; others as "Curators" when they donate to the Artist Fund; and most of us join as "Subscribers" to this "free" weekly newsletter; (or follow on: Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, or Soundcloud). All are welcome.
