It was during China's Cultural Revolution (1966-1971) that Chinese-born Artist, He Qi both learned to paint and became a Christian. On Thursday He Qi, visited Indiana Interchurch Center where the soft-spoken artist shared his personal story against the backdrop of his vibrantly colored paintings; colors from the Chinese folk art that he adores. "I paint to inspire peace," said He Qi. "I am an Artist, and that is what I do." His energetic works, infused with Christian and traditional Chinese symbolism, are also a reflection of a childhood dominated by a government hostile to religion. That is why He Qi's "Chinese Nativity Scene" at Dushu Lake Church, Suzhou (above) is my NEWS OF WEEK.
