Rivertown's Display Shows a Passion for Religious Art

THE SHIELDS GAZETTE
By Terry Kelly
PASSION PLAY ... directed by film-maker artist Garry Hunter with one of the shipping containers.
UNITED KINGDOM---The man behind a dramatic religious extravaganza coming to South Tyneside has promised an “exciting and innovative” event for thousands to witness. The Great North Passion is a retelling of the last hours of Jesus Christ, which will be broadcast live from Bents Park in South Shields by BBC One on Good Friday. As part of the religious special, a series of steel shipping containers will be transformed into individual works of art, before being joined together to form a huge cross-shaped installation. To maximise local involvement, the steel containers will each have a designated artist, and they are being sent out into the community to be transformed into works of art, representing the stations of the cross.
