KANSAS---The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed same-sex marriages to proceed in Kansas, lifting a temporary stay issued Monday by Justice Sonia Sotomayor. In urging the justices to step in, Kansas officials relied heavily on Thursday’s ruling from the federal appeals court in Cincinnati upholding several state bans on same-sex marriage. That ruling, they said, made it likely that the Supreme Court would soon decide whether there is a constitutional right to gay marriage. [link]
