Henry Moore's Stonehenge lithograph, 1973, was donated by the artist's foundation |
British Prime Minister David Cameron gave US President Barack Obama a print of Stonehenge by
Henry Moore when they got pally during talks at the White House last week. The gift was a thoughtful one: Obama made a flying visit to the Neolithic site in Wiltshire last September, describing it as “very cool”. Moore first encountered Stonehenge by moonlight in 1921, and he remained enchanted with its sculptural form after 4,000 years of weathering, eventually producing the lithograph in 1973. The print received by Obama was donated by the Henry Moore Foundation. The Henry Moore lithograph is worth around £1,000 but with gifts, it’s the thought that counts. [
