RELIGIOUS ART | NEWS OF WEEK

ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
By Gregory Disney-Britton
Expressionist painter Yoram Raanan graduated from the University of Arts, Philadelphia, and now lives in Israel where he was inspired by the light, the energy and the people. His painting "Jacob Blesses His Sons on His Deathbed" is based on the moment in Genesis: 49:1-2, 28, where Jacob gathers his 12 sons together for a final blessing. As you begin 2015, what have you done to prepare for the blessings that come with new surroundings, relationships and thinking? That question of readiness makes "Jacob Blesses His Sons" (above) my NEWS OF WEEK.

If you are inspired by the daily art news and/or the annual prizes that A&O readers select each year, please show your support. The Alpha & Omega Project for Contemporary Religious Arts is an all volunteer effort, and it takes a lot of time, talent, and also money to produce this year-round celebration of art of the religious imagination.
