Chris Ofili’s ‘The Holy Virgin Mary’ available for $2.3 million

UNITED KINGDOM---The Australian collector David Walsh is selling Chris Ofili’s 1996 painting “The Holy Virgin Mary,” which caused a furor when it was shown at the Brooklyn Museum in October 1999 as part of Charles Saatchi’s touring “Sensation” exhibition of works by Young British Artists (YBAs). “The Holy Virgin Mary” will be included in Christie’s June 30 auction of postwar and contemporary art in London, estimated at about $2.3 million.
