Cincinnati's Freedom Center celebrates Marriage Equality

OHIO---Today, history has been made. The ruling of the Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges was made possible by works and the bravery of activists like Bayard Rustin, Harvey Milk and Edith Windsor. We thank Jim Obergefell and the plaintiffs who testified and changed the course history. Justice Kennedy’s remarks affirm the fact that we all have the same legal right to marriage. At the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, we believe in inclusive freedom – where we all have equal access to the same rights and agree with the words of President Barack Obama, that today, “we have made our Union a little more perfect.” [link]

It was a maximalist experience for two minimalists who love to collect. We sold off multiple collections, including snow globes, Mary sculptures, paperweights, Disney plates, nutcrackers, 21c penguins, walking canes, and 100 prints and paintings! Most of it was in storage, but plenty was on display. We did it by inviting our community of artists and collectors to an estate sale before opening it to the public. Bates for The New York Times The Minneapolis Institute of Art announced Thursday that it had decided not to move forward with a planned Kehinde Wiley exhibition, citing recent allegations of sexual misconduct against the artist, which he has denied.
