VATICAN CITY---Pope Francis sent a telegram to the Archbishop of Berlin, expressing his deep sadness on hearing the news [of the Berlin Christmas market attack]. “His Holiness wishes to manifest his own participation in the morning of family and loves ones, expressing his compassion and assuring them of his closeness in their pain,” the telegram, sent on the pope’s behalf by Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, said. “In prayer, he entrusts the departed to the mercy of God, imploring him also for the healing of the wounded.
