NEW YORK---The Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) is the latest cultural institution to respond to President Donald Trump’s immigration ban, which targets citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries. In rejection of the climate of fear being promoted by the new administration, “Muslim in New York: Highlights from the Photography Collection” celebrates the important place of Muslims in the melting pot that is New York. It was a maximalist experience for two minimalists who love to collect. We sold off multiple collections, including snow globes, Mary sculptures, paperweights, Disney plates, nutcrackers, 21c penguins, walking canes, and 100 prints and paintings! Most of it was in storage, but plenty was on display. We did it by inviting our community of artists and collectors to an estate sale before opening it to the public.
