New Trailer: ‘Mary Magdalene,’ Starring Rooney Mara

The Weinstein Company mogul probably hoped to have another Academy Awards contender with a new film from the same team — the biblical biopic “Mary Magdalene.” The film was delayed until next year, but there’s a new trailer from its British distributor, Universal, to entice audiences now. Ms. Mara portrays the woman depicted in the New Testament as a loyal follower of Jesus (played by Joaquin Phoenix, who worked with the actress in the 2013 movie “Her”). The cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”) as the apostle Paul and Tahar Rahim (“A Prophet”) as Judas. [More]
