RELIGIOUS ART | NEWS OF WEEK
ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
By Ernest and Gregory Disney-Britton
April 2016 brings with it a new season of the art of the religious imagination, and this time from India! As Indian activists and Western scholars debate Hindu identity, Walt Disney Studios did their part too with "Jungle Book," and we’re excited to showcase the Hindu deities in a new exhibition, ‘Puja and Piety,’ at The Santa Barbara Museum of Art in California. This exhibition celebrates the complexity of Asian religious art by examining the relationship between aesthetic expression and the devotional practice, or puja, in the three ancient religions of India. The exhibition opens today. Question of week: What should Americans learn from the religious art of India?
