RELIGIOUS ART | NEWS OF WEEK

ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
By TAHLIB
Perception is reality. A pair of young Arab men take parachuting lessons at a rural airport, and the whispers behind their backs are about "September 11th." A black male teenager approaches, walking a fancy new red scooter but no one asks if he needs gas. Instead, he is asked,  "Is that your scooter?" How do our visual memories shape our perceptions of present realities, and can Artists help us to expand our perceptions? Russian artists: AES+F, are trying to do just that by shocking our perceptions, and improving our inter-religious realities. Such efforts during a week of deadly violence in Egypt make "New Liberty" in a burqa (above) my NEWS OF WEEK.

In other religious art news from across the USA, and around the world:
It's more than Art. It's Religion. We are believers and skeptics too, united in the search for human understanding through art of the religious imagination. We believe in the artists and craftsman who dare to explore religious themes through their creativity. When you believe, you join other believers. Some of us join the A&O Project as dues-paying members; others support the A&O Prize - Youth Scholarships as donors; and still other digital members subscribe to this "free" weekly newsletter (or listen: soundcloud; or watch on YouTube). If you believe in more than "art for art's sake", then join us.
