RELIGIOUS ART | NEWS OF WEEK
ALPHA OMEGA ARTS NEWS
By TAHLIB
Creating an America where religious diversity thrives is an enormous task, and the Arts play a central role in making that happen. The Arts help communities engage new ideas, and teach us how not to fear the unexpected. What day is better to acknowledge the controversial spreading of new ideas than today: Palm Sunday? But what can I do? I can collect works by a few artists, and then share their explorations. In fact, that's what I admire about historian Karen King who found an ancient papyrus and ignited this week's religious debate. While it's not contemporary art, she found a creative device that challenges Christian assumptions about the celibacy of Jesus. Religious diversity grows when we share new ideas, and that's why "Gospel of Jesus Wife" (above) is my NEWS OF WEEK.
