Grundler Prize for Medieval Study goes to Notre Dame Icon Scholar

MICHIGAN - The prestigious Grundler Prize for 2011 was awarded to a University of Notre Dame scholar, Dr. Thomas F.X. Noble, chair of the Department of History at Notre Dame for his book, "Images, Iconoclasm, and the Carolingians." The prize, presented by Western Michigan University consists of an award of $1,000.00 to the author of a book or monograph in any area of medieval studies that is judged by the selection committee to be an outstanding contribution to its field. It was awarded at the 46th International Congress on Medieval Studies held May 12-15. The book was published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 2009 and examines the emergence of a distinctive Christian discourse concerning sacred art in both the East and West from late antiquity through the era of Byzantine iconoclasm and into the Carolingian period. [link]
