Algerian Capital Hosts Calligraphy Exhibition for Ramadan

Islamic Calligraphic Art on display for Ramadan
ALGERIA - According to elmoujahid website, the exhibition was opened at 10:30 pm last night [Aug. 16] and hosts visitors until the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Municipality of Algeria’s central region, Mash’al Al-Shahid Cultural Association and Algeria’s Cultural and Art Center have cooperated in holding the exhibition. There are tableaus of Islamic calligraphies and paintings with Islamic themes displayed at the center. A forum on decoration and calligraphy in Islam has also been planned to be held on the sidelines of the exhibition with the presence of Mohammad Iskandar, a top Algerian calligrapher. The exhibition of Islamic artworks began August 16, at the Cultural-Art Center in Algiers, capital city of Algeria. How Christian’s should engage the Islamic Art displayed during the holy month of Ramadan is a fascinating question, the answer is simple. First we must remind ourselves of our own love of Christ, and who challenged us to see others through the lens of Love. Embrace Islamic Art like a Lover. Second Christians must develop a deeper understanding of the Koran (read it) and read about Islamic beliefs and practices including the restriction against depictions of God. Note the similarities to the Christian concern about idolatry? The third path of artistic engagement of Ramadan artworks should be to develop the ability to communicate with an understanding of the cultural backgrounds of Muslims in our communities. Muslims are Araba, but most are African and Asian. The final path to engaging Islamic Art during this month of Ramadan is to seek out the signs of God in the artworks, and to relate those healings, miracles and wonders with our own lives.
